The University of Bradford is seeking to appoint a new academic leader for its School of Social Sciences. With a strong academic profile and passion for the transformational impact of education on individuals, communities and society at large, the successful candidate will demonstrate values-based leadership and exceptional influencing and change management skills. They will also have a track record of academic and strategic leadership, and relish the opportunity of strengthening the capability of the School during a period of growth and opportunity for the University.
The School of Social Sciences is part of the Faculty of Management, Law and Social Sciences which is one of four Faculties. The School offers a unique range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes structured around four key academic areas:
- Peace Studies and International Development
- Psychology
- Sociology and Criminology
- Social Work and Social Care
Teaching and research is delivered by high quality staff with real-world experience which informs every aspect of its work, offering excellent learning and employability opportunities. Students are attracted and retained both locally and internationally, which makes for a richly diverse community that is furthered still by the makeup of staff groupings.
The School regularly attracts a large number of Chevening, World Bank, Commonwealth and Rotary Peace scholars. It also excels in its strong links with local and nationally recognised organisations, including Bradford Council, West Yorkshire Police, the NHS, Barnardo’s, Social Work England, Quaker Foundation, Pain Association Scotland, the Ministry of Defence, and the British Psychological Society. It is widely recognised for its deep and longstanding links with international bodies such as Rotary International, the Hague and the African Development Bank.
