Applications are invited for a Temporary post of a Research Fellow within UCD School of Medicine/Systems Biology Ireland.

University College Dublin (UCD) is seeking applications for a Research Fellow position to work on development of mass spectrometry (MS)-based proteomics at Systems Biology Ireland (SBI). Proteomics is one of the main high throughput technologies used in systems biology approaches and with rapid development in this field, a Research Fellow is required to adapt techniques, improve work-flows and enhance use of the existing infrastructure. The Research Fellow will be contributing to the development of digital cancer twin models that allow for the design of personalized and less toxic treatments. This project will rely heavily on reliable and reproducible proteomics data analysis.

The successful applicant will be part of the Kolch Group at SBI (https://www.ucd.ie/sbi/team/groups/kolchgroup/) which has close collaborations with a wide range of clinics, industry and other academic organisations. The Research Fellow will work closely with other proteomics specialists, in addition to computational modellers, experimentalists and clinical/research students.

To be successful in the role, the fellow will need to be experienced in the MS analysis of posttranslational modifications, such as phosphorylation, and protein-protein interactions, including the development of methods to analyse them in cells and tissues. The fellow will be expected to have experience of working with collaborators from different disciplines, be self-motivated and be able to independently develop and execute project-related aims. The postholder will have the opportunity to build a research group but is also expected to participate in collaborative proteomics projects with other SBI groups.

The purpose of the role is to deliver a specific research project. The role allows the Research Fellow the professional development opportunity to demonstrate the capacity for independent and self-directed research and scholarship and the management of a research team. The role allows the Fellow to assemble a portfolio of independent achievement and render themselves competitive for tenured academic positions or senior scientific roles in industry. In addition to the Principal Duties and Responsibilities listed below, the successful candidate will also carry out the following duties specific to this project:

  • Collaborate with SBI researchers on proteomics projects.
  • Develop proteomics methods with and for other SBI groups.

Research Fellow Salary Range: 60,412 - 65,828 per annum.

Appointment on the above range will be dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Closing date: 17:00hrs (local Irish time) on the 5th of June 2023.

Applications must be submitted by the closing date and time specified. Any applications which are still in progress at the closing time of 17:00hrs (Local Irish Time) on the specified closing date will be cancelled automatically by the system. UCD are unable to accept late applications.

UCD do not require assistance from Recruitment Agencies. Any CV's submitted by Recruitment Agencies will be returned.

Prior to application, further information (including application procedure) should be obtained from the Work at UCD website: https://www.ucd.ie/workatucd/jobs/.
