Job Description

The Department of Communication Sciences & Disorders at Northern Arizona University invites applicants to apply for a 12-month Assistant Clinical Professor position (not tenure eligible). The Assistant Clinical Professor will provide evidence-based graduate student training and mentorship in school-based and other clinical settings with an emphasis on culturally and linguistically responsive services, including assessment and treatment of bilingual and multilingual clients/students. Clinical education will include in-person and telepractice services for our Summer Track graduate program which has undergone a recent expansion to the NAU-Yuma campus. Responsibilities include clinical education and consultation with graduate students providing bilingual services and services for students/clients from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds during Practicum, service activities associated with our academic program, and the possibility for engaging in related scholarship. Although clinical education duties are expected to make up the bulk of student-related activities, opportunities to teach coursework may exist. Preference will be given to applicants with advanced spoken and written Spanish language skills in the context of professional practice in Speech-Language Pathology.

Duties:

• Provide in-person and remote clinical education and consultation for graduate students, with an emphasis on the development of knowledge and skills leading to effective provision of culturally and linguistically responsive services for bilingual clients/students and those from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
• Collaborate with other clinical educators to coordinate clinical practicum and externship placement sites for graduate students
• Engage and collaborate in service activities
• Other duties as assigned

Special Information:

The location of this position is flexible. The duty station for this position can be based at the NAU Yuma Campus or at the Flagstaff Mountain Campus. Occasional remote work assignment is possible. Occasional travel to clinical sites throughout Arizona will be required. Most of these sites are in central and southern Arizona (Phoenix, Tucson, and Yuma areas). It is not tenure-eligible.

Minimum Qualifications

• Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) in Speech-Language Pathology from the American Speech-Language- Hearing Association.
• Eligibility for licensure to practice Speech-Language Pathology in the state of Arizona.
• Three years of clinical experience as a Speech-Language Pathologist.
• Previous experience with clinical education (e.g., supervision or mentoring of graduate students during practicum or externship)
• Experience with provision of clinical services for bilingual populations and individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
• Experience with pediatric populations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ability to provide clinical education in multiple areas of clinical speech-language practice.
• Experience with state and federal regulations regarding pre-K-12 education, provision of clinical services and supervision, and higher education (e.g., HIPAA, FERPA, IDEA, and CAA requirements)
• University teaching experience.
• Experience providing school-based Speech-Language Pathology services.
• Advanced proficiency in Spanish and English and the ability to communicate professionally in spoken and written forms of both languages.
• Advanced knowledge and skills related to best practices in the evaluation and treatment of culturally and linguistically diverse populations. (e.g., advanced coursework, continuing education)
• Evidence of previous professional or scholarly presentations or publications on the topic of provision of culturally and linguistically responsive services in speech-language pathology

Background Information

This position has been identified as a safety/security sensitive position. Therefore, per AZ Revised Statute, Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the following: a criminal background investigation, employment history investigation, degree verification (in some cases) and fingerprinting. This is a Faculty (FAC) position. NAU offers an excellent benefit package including generous health, dental and vision insurance; participation in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) or the Optional Retirement Program (ORP); sick leave accruals and 10 holidays per year; and tuition reduction for employees and qualified family members. Employees offered a position will be eligible for state health plans (including NAU's BCBS Plan). Employees will have 31 days from date of hire to enroll in benefits, and their benefits will then be effective the first day of the pay period following their completed enrollment. If a new employee chooses the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS) retirement option, participation in the ASRS Plan (and the long-term disability coverage that accompanies it) will begin on the first of the pay period following 183 days of employment. New employees who choose to participate in the Optional Retirement Plan (ORP; an alternative to the ASRS plan) will begin to participate on the first day of the pay period following election.
