At the Faculty of Mechanical Science and Engineering, Institute of Power Engineering, the Chair of Hydrogen and Nuclear Energy offers two positions as

Research Associate / PhD Student (m/f/x)

(subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting September 1, 2023. The positions are limited to February 28, 2027. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The positions offer the chance to obtain further academic qualification (usually PhD).

Tasks: The project NAUTILUS and the Junior Research Group NAUTILUS deal with the molten salt reactor technology with integrated salt treatment system for further treatment of highly active nuclear waste. The project aims at utilizing the TUD training reactor AKR-2 to provide generic experiments for future chloride-based molten salt reactors and to develop the corresponding methods, which will employ the pile-oscillator technique, neutron transmission, neutron scattering, and multiple methods of neutron detection. The experimental setups will also be represented by reactor-physical simulations. As a research associate you will contribute to the design, planning, conduction, optimization, evaluation, and interpretation of the experiments and the simulations. Your focus on experiment or simulation, resp., will form during the first months of you work.

Requirements: very good university degree (diploma, master’s degree) in physics, nuclear engineering, computer science, or a related subject; interest in (reactor physics) fundamental research; ability to work interdisciplinary; ability to work independently but also in a team; programming skills; ability to communicate in English; practical experience in the fields of radiation detection and/or radiation simulation or basic knowledge of logic circuits would be beneficial.
