About the Role

The Research Fellow will join the research program of Dr Nicole Stupka where they will participate in a research program that is investigating how extracellular matrix remodelling modulated inflammation and regeneration in skeletal muscle disease. The aim of this project is to use pharmacological and genetic approached to target ECM remodelling to improve muscle structure and function.

This project will include the use of pre-clinical animal models, contractile function techniques together with histology and immunohistochemistry to evaluate skeletal muscle function and structure.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Under the guidance of Dr Stupka conduct internationally competitive research, resulting in high-quality research outcomes for our industry partners. 

  • Participate in research as a member of a research team and independently to ensure the timely completion of planned pre-clinical mouse studies and the analysis of collected tissue samples. 

  • Contribute to the writing of industry research reports, academic papers and other scholarly outputs to a high academic standard in accordance with the research expectations of the University of Melbourne. 

Who We Are Looking For

You will bring strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks to achieve project objectives within timelines. You will also have demonstrated experience in establishing and troubleshooting experimental techniques and a demonstrated ability in data analysis, interpretation, and presentation.

You will also have:

  • A research-focused MSc or PhD in physiology
  • Substantial and demonstrated experience in histology, immunohistochemistry, microscopy, and image analysis.
  • Substantial and demonstrated experience with pre-clinical mouse studies including mouse handling and drug administration (including oral gavage)
