Job Description

The United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) College of Business and Economics (CBE) is looking for Assistant Professors in Entrepreneurship. The positions will be affiliated on a 50-50 basis with the Department of Innovation, Technology and Entrepreneurship and the new Emirates Centre for Entrepreneurship Research to be launched in 2023. The positions are research-oriented and have a reduced teaching load.

The research centre aims to be the leading hub for scholarly research and policy consultancy in the Arab Gulf region. The centre also hosts the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor (GEM) UAE study. UAEU is the first university established in the UAE and has a long history of graduating Emirati students across various disciplines. With the main campus in Al Ain, UAEU has been operating since 1977.

Currently ranked 5th in the Arab World, 27th amongst universities under 50 years old and 288th by the QS Ranking Worldwide, UAEU is a comprehensive university offering courses across 9 Colleges, including Medicine, Law, IT, Engineering, Education, Science, Food & Agriculture and Humanities, in addition to Business.

The College of Business and Economics offers an English-medium education encompassing five undergraduate programs, three post-graduate programs and 82 faculty from 34 different countries. In 2000, UAEU was the first University in the region to achieve AACSB accreditation, awarded to only the top 5% of the world’s business schools. Additionally, the College hosts the only Accounting Program in the country accredited by AACSB. In addition to undergraduate education, the College offers an MBA, MPA, DBA and specialised Master’s programmes as well as Executive Education in Al Ain and Abu Dhabi. Entrepreneurship teaching at UAEU is expanding rapidly.

We offer a compulsory General Education course in Entrepreneurship to students across the Colleges, a minor, an undergraduate concentration, and courses in the MBA and DBA programmes. New faculty members are expected to have a PhD, ideally from an AACSB-accredited institution. Moreover, evidence of significant publication potential is expected (reference: Scopus and ABDC). Experience in teaching undergraduate courses in Entrepreneurship and related subjects is expected for all applications, preferably from working at an AACSB-accredited university. Industry experience is a bonus. The ability to communicate well with a range of different nationalities and personalities is a must, as well as a collegial outlook. Hard work and patience are appreciated personal qualities.

Applications are submitted through the UAEU Jobs Portal https://jobs.uaeu.ac.ae/index.jsp with a targeted cover letter, CV outlining your experience and suitability for the job, a list of three references whom we could contact in support of your application, and precise details on how we can contact you.

Please highlight the AACSB status of any institutions you have worked or studied at in your cover letter.

A generous benefits package is offered to successful applicants. This includes a competitive tax-free salary that is determined according to rank and experience, yearly round-trip air tickets for the faculty member and their family (spouse and up to three children), tuition support for children's schooling, a one-time settling-in allowance, free accommodation, free health insurance, paid holidays and summer vacation, and an end-of-contract gratuity.

The positions can start per agreement with the College but preferably in August 2023 at the latest. Applications are accepted until the positions are filled.

Further enquiries should be directed to the Emirates Centre for Entrepreneurship Research Acting Director, Professor Teemu Kautonen, teemu.kautonen@uaeu.ac.ae or the Department Chair, Dr Louise Chalkley, louise.chalkley@uaeu.ac.ae.
