Job Description

The Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum (LKCNHM) of the National University of Singapore is inviting applications for a Museum Officer position. This is a Research Track appointment with teaching and curation responsibilities as well. The successful candidate must be passionate about: research on Southeast Asian biodiversity; education on biodiversity and ecology; and working with specimen collections. The successful candidate will be expected to work independently and in collaboration with other museum staff, in these areas as well as on other aspects of the Museum’s operations. As such, we are seeking highly motivated candidates, with strong and relevant research CVs, who are good communicators and educators, and are keen to work with zoological specimens. Salary and benefits are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The successful candidate should be able to commence work in December 2023.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Developing an internationally competitive research programme on Southeast Asian biodiversity and natural history, in areas including but not limited to systematics and taxonomy, phylogenetics and evolutionary biology, ecology and biogeography 
  2. Teaching one university course module on field biology and ecology; and helping co-teach other courses (graduate or undergraduate) and/or supervising research students/interns as and when necessary
  3. Growing and developing, managing, and curating the Museum’s collection
  4. Performing various services for the Museum, including in operations, outreach and engagement, research management, consultancies, etc., as may be necessary

Qualifications

  1. PhD degree and relevant expertise in zoological systematics and biodiversity research or an equivalent area
  2. Strong English writing and verbal skills
  3. Documented ability to multi-task and work well in a team

Desirable skills:

  1. Expertise in systematics and taxonomic research 
  2. Experience with specimen collection management/curation
  3. Experience in applied biodiversity research (e.g., consultancies), conference or workshop organization, journal editing, research management or administration
  4. Skillsets in biodiversity informatics, molecular ecology and field collections
  5. Singapore Class 3 driving license
