The University of the West of Scotland (UWS) is looking to appoint an outstanding academic to join our highly reputable School of Health and Life Sciences as Professor of Healthcare. We are keen to recruit a researcher, who will drive areas of research in healthcare, nursing, health economics and is excited about forging interdisciplinary research topics across the School and wider University.
As a Professor of Healthcare, you will make a significant contribution to the research, educational and leadership practice activities within the Division of Adult Nursing and Healthcare, across the School of Health & Life Sciences and the wider University. You will be required to lead activity linked with the Research Excellence Framework (REF) and conduct individual and collaborative research projects, including supervision of such projects, generate grant income and contribute to the research profile leading to the production of research outcomes. You will contribute to the University and School of Health & Life Sciences’ objective of growing its national and international healthcare academic reputation for research-informed student teaching and learning, innovation, and integrated academic practice.
This is a pivotal role and we welcome applications from candidates with a track record of research and knowledge exchange excellence, highly collaborative research leadership, and an interest and expertise in methods relevant to healthcare research. We are looking for candidates who are keen to develop distinctive signature research aligned with our ambitions in UWS Strategy 2025. Specifically, we are looking for a new colleague to lead and build on our current interprofessional and healthcare related research. The ability to secure significant external research funding, develop a highly collegial research culture and strategically coordinate research activities with colleagues across the Division, School and University is at the heart of this role.
UWS offers a highly collaborative research environment with interdisciplinary research teams across Schools working closely with industry, governments, and charitable organisations nationally and internationally. All UWS Professors are expected to make a significant contribution to the activities of the University whether through teaching and associated educational activities, development of research initiatives and strategies and/or to management, policy development and leadership roles whether at Division, School or University levels. All professors are expected to contribute to the development and direction of the University community by providing relevant academic leadership. Academic leadership may take the form of; providing research and/or teaching leadership in their discipline whether in their own Division, School or in a university wide capacity; leading research teams or by contribution to interdisciplinary research themes; educational leadership of the discipline within the School of Health & Life Sciences; and academic leadership through knowledge transfer activities.
You will be based at an identified UWS Campus but are likely to have scheduled activities at our other campus locations.
