Opportunity

The Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences, in the Melbourne Veterinary School, seeks to expand its expertise and appoint one or more outstanding academics to positions that are broadly open to all areas of Small Animal Clinical Studies (Anaesthesia and Analgesia).

This position will contribute to teaching and learning in Small Animal Clinical Studies and will be responsible for clinical teaching and coordination across the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program. The incumbent will develop their profile into a leading role in the research and teaching program in their discipline which enhances the academic activities within the School, Faculty, and University.

This position will be primarily located at the Werribee campus of the University of Melbourne. Located just 32kms south-west of Melbourne, our Werribee campus is a hub for teaching, research and equine specialist care, and hosts the Werribee Equine Centre and Greencross Veterinary Hospital. Our Werribee campus trains the next generation of veterinarians and veterinary researchers in state-of-the art facilities and houses organisations providing general, specialist and emergency vet services to the local community.

There are also opportunities to provide anaesthesia services for wildlife, zoo and other exotic animals at the Werribee campus and at our partner zoos in Metropolitan Melbourne.

About you

You have demonstrated leadership experience in engaging, inspiring and aligning teams around the vision and strategic direction. You are also able to lead across all levels and work collaboratively and effectively with diverse stakeholders both inside the School, the wider University and outside the University.

You will possess;

  • A veterinary degree with demonstrated experience which enables you to be registered in the State of Victoria as a Veterinary Practitioner
  • A specialist qualification in veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia from the AVBS, EBVS or ANZCVS
  • A national or international reputation in the field of veterinary anaesthesia and analgesia with a strong track record of conference presentations and CPD delivery
  • A record of success in research with evidence of competitive grant funding success and high impact scholarly outputs
