Job Summary

The Department of Society, Culture, and Languages at Columbus State University (CSU) invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Anthropology and NAGPRA Specialist. The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching and display a compelling research agenda involving undergraduate students. Specialties are open, but preference will be given to candidates with the ability to teach Cultural Anthropology, Discovering Anthropology, Human Origins, and Language and Culture. Appointment for this position begins August 1, 2023.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will serve as curator or overseer of our NAGPRA Collection and teach 21 credits of undergraduate/graduate courses per semester for the general education core requirements, minor in anthropology requirement, and/or Master of Science in Natural Sciences (MSNS) degree program requirements. Standard duties and responsibilities include recruitment, advising and mentoring students, maintaining a strong research program, and providing service to the department, college, university, community and one's profession, as well as, continued professional development. The successful candidate will be able to foster an environment of professionalism and collaboration; demonstrate an exceptional ability to function as part of a team with University faculty and the local community; and engage in practices that support the University's focus on student success and the Momentum Approach.

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an earned doctorate in Anthropology prior to the start date of the Fall 2023 semester and have experience and/or be proficient in federal regulations of NAGPRA. Candidates must have excellent organizational skills with effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.

Applicants must have the ability to meet Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) requirements, in particular, a minimum of 18 graduate hours in the teaching discipline.
