About Flinders Rural and Remote Health NT

At Flinders NT, our aim is to be a hub for innovative health research, education, and workforce development across the Northern Territory.  We engage with students, community, and stakeholders to provide critical programs, such as the University Department of Rural Health, Northern Territory Medical Program, Paramedicine, and the Rural Clinical School.

Our postgraduate education pathways (Remote Health Practice program), provides workforce development through Indigenous health and clinical skills training, and we have a community driven research program led by researchers committed to improving health outcomes. We work alongside Poche SA+NT focussing on Indigenous leadership capacity development and developing the Indigenous health workforce.  All activities are driven by our values which focus on the long-term and short-term needs of the NT community.

About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated pharmacist to coordinate pharmacy placements and strengthen professional ties for Flinders University pharmacy students across the Northern Territory. This will involve providing support, mentoring, professional development and collaboration opportunities for pharmacy students and interns. Daily activities will include academic counselling and curricula design; whilst also working to extend the placement opportunities for remote pharmacy student placements beyond their existing networks. The Pharmacist Placement Coordinator will contribute to other Rural and Remote Health strategic planning and educational opportunities, with a focus on developing the rural workforce.

About You

For the role of Pharmacist Placement Coordinator, we are seeking an experienced Pharmacist with excellent professional standing in the field, who understands the rural and remote context of healthcare. This will be evidenced by your significant interpersonal skills, particularly with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and with internal and external staff, students, and industry partners.  Dedicated to ongoing professional development, you will have taught at a tertiary level before (including simulation or clinical education of students or interns) and delivered initiative learning strategies to improve the student experience.

Furthermore, we are seeking someone who can demonstrate:

  • A current registration (or eligible for registration) with the Pharmacy Board of Australia.
  • An understanding of the nexus between teaching and learning, research, and scholarship.
  • A commitment to fostering a positive workplace culture for all.
  • Behaviours that support the University’s Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) and to enhance educational opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.
  • Experience working in remote Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Health (desirable).

Prescribed Conditions for Employment

Northern Territory Government legislation (the Care and Protection of Children Act 2007) now requires all individuals in child related employment or whose duties involve, or are likely to involve, contact with a child, to hold a valid 'Working with Children Clearance' (Ochre Card). This position involves child related work and is assessed as requiring a Working with Children Clearance/Ochre Card.

  • A valid National Police Certificate which is satisfactory to the University will also be required before the successful applicant can commence in this position.
