We are seeking to appoint a Lecturer in Primary Care of Small Animals to join a team of outstanding world-class colleagues at the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney.

The University Veterinary Teaching Hospitals, located on the main University campus in Camperdown and the Camden campus, are components of the core teaching and research facilities in the Sydney School of Veterinary Science a globally ranked veterinary school.  

The academic environment is different from commercial practices with the academic mission of teaching and research being central to operations. The primary focus is to contribute to the development, teaching, and assessment of primary care of small animals across the veterinary science curriculum. This will include providing a high-quality service to clients of the University Veterinary Teaching Hospital Sydney and actively participating in the School’s clinical research programs. You are not focused on caseload benchmarks of revenue targets but rather on making a difference, leaving a legacy for the profession, and undertaking research that changes the lives of animals.

Your key responsibilities will be to:

  • maintain reputation for academic excellence 
  • make original and innovative contribution to the advancement of research and education within the discipline which are recognised as outstanding, nationally or internationally 
  • maintain a research profile which meets University expectation and standard and enhance the reputation of the School, including, success in competitive research grants and other research income generation, publications in peer-reviewed international journals  
  • lead the development in research which enhance the reputation of the School, such as leading participation in internationally funded research projects or partner-engaged research projects 
  • coordinate and develop curricula and program within the School ensuring outstanding teaching and learning outcomes 
  • coordinate and engage in high-quality teaching and learning experience which meet the University’s expectations and standards for education

About you

  • significant clinical experience in primary care of small animals 
  • memberships in the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine, Small Animal Surgery or Veterinary Practice (Small Animals) 
  • experience in postgraduate and undergraduate teaching.  
  • a postgraduate research qualification (PhD or MPhil) or is near completion, in primary care of small animals 
  • a veterinary degree that is registrable in NSW  
  • a track record of publications in the research field of small animals 
  • experience in supervising or mentoring others and/or coordinating team activities 
  • demonstrated success in designing, implementing, and evaluating teaching and learning initiatives 
  • developing network of relationships with key academic, industry and professional institutions, partners, and stakeholders 
  • a developing knowledge and understanding of the key strategic issues in the discipline and higher education sector 
  • demonstrated capacity to communicate effectively across a range of media and forums. 
  • experience in teaching and learning, as evidenced by participation in team teaching within an established program and experience in teaching in a variety of settings
