Lecturer (Fine Arts)

The McNally School of Fine Arts, which resides within the Faculty of Fine Arts, Media & Creative Industries seeks to appoint a Lecturerwho can teach across the Diploma, BA(Hons), and MAprogrammes in Fine Arts.

Reporting to the Head of School and a Programme Leader, you will teach into theSchool’s exciting, diverse, and interdisciplinary practice-based and research-led curriculum, with a broad range of subject areas which aims to provide students with exposure to various creative, critical, and contextual groundings and development in contemporary Fine Arts practices.

As a Lecturer at LASALLE, your key responsibilities include academic preparation, teaching and delivery of specialised knowledge/skills and cognitive-based content to ensure the students’ learning objectives are met. You will work collaboratively with the teams within and across programmes to enhance strategic and organisational plans and ensure that the School as a whole achieves its collectively determined ambitions and objectives.

Other responsibilities can include coordination of school exhibitions with academic and administrative staff, curriculum review, timetabling, co-curricularstudent-driven learning activities, academic administration and organisation, feedback on assignments and in group critiques, assessment and marking, student mentoring, and admissions and recruitment. You will also have the opportunity to contribute to the academic development of the School’s programmes and work as a team to propose and initiate activities or projects across the School and Faculty, as one of the many possible manifestations of how your professional practice, research interest, intellectual inquiry, or ways of making and knowing can be shared and extended to benefit the School’s programmes and students.

The ideal candidate should have applied and academic knowledge or experience in a number of fine arts disciplines.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification, preferably at PhD level or equivalent in a practice-based field.
  • At least 3 years of full-time, substantial professional experience in the industry and 5 years of working knowledge of fine arts education at a tertiary level or tertiary-level teaching experience.
  • A passion for teaching with ability to nurture and encourage excellence in student learning and ability to teach within a multicultural context.
  • Excellent communication, organisational, team-working and administrative skills.
  • A positive attitude to research, and preferably a personal research profile. The College provides funding for research and support for Phd.
  • Ability to teach contextual subjects will be an added advantage.
  • Agility, with the social and emotional competence to connect with industry and through social and print media, and a flair for student and people engagement in broad-based contemporary art settings, will be an added advantage.
