Associate Professor in Design (AC4) (with an initial appointment as Academic Portfolio Leader)

We seek an experienced HE Leader at the Associate Professor in Design Level to provide leadership to the Design Anthropology portfolio of programmes (including BA Hons Graphic and Digital Design, BA Hons Animation, MA Web Design & Content Planning, and MA Design) and lead on learning, teaching, research, and knowledge exchange activity within the academic specific area in the School of Design.  The successful candidate will be an inspirational design research practitioner with knowledge in one of the following disciplines: Design Inclusion, Graphic Design, Animation, Web Design, and visual communication have energy and passion for the student experience and work well across multidisciplinary teams.

The School of Design is part of the highly successful and vibrant faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences. Frequently commended for our partnership working across the design and creative industries sector, the School delivers high-quality research with external research funding reaching £4M and a range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes leading to various creative industries disciplines, including #Architecture, #Animation, #Media, #GraphicDesign, #LandscapeArchitecture #Visualcommunication, #Urbanism, #InclusiveDesign and more.

The Design Anthropology Portfolio focuses on how design translates human values into tangible experiences. Design Anthropology is a way to uncover social aspects of user experience. Here, the ideas are oriented toward digital transformation and innovation through visual communication, animation, and design practices.

The post holder is expected to have strong stakeholder relationships at regional, national, and international levels across teaching or their subject-related discipline, a rack record of teaching and scholarship initiatives or discipline-related research and obtain external funding.  The post holder will be expected to provide leadership and set standards of excellence.  

The successful will hold a PhD degree in a relevant to Design subject (communication, graphic language, typography, social design, co-design, industrial design or similar) and be recognised as Fellow of HEA.
