About the Role
The Research Fellow will carry out research and development activities that will contribute to Future Energy Exports Cooperative Research Centre (FEnEx CRC) research project conducted jointly by UniSA, QUT, Asset Institute, MIMOSA, Queensland Government, titled ‘Open Specification for Analytics Interoperability’.

The Industrial AI Research Centre (IAI) at UniSA includes researchers from Computer Science, Mathematics, and Engineering who work on practical problems in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Statistics, Control Theory and Analytics, over to Software Engineering, Data Management and Interoperability. This background permits it to cover research in AI, data and analytics, autonomous and adaptive systems and Industry 4.0, to help industry partners solve real world problems in application domains such as Manufacturing, Defence, Health, Agriculture, Transport, Energy and Resources. In the areas covered by IAI, UniSA was rated "above world standard" in AI and "well above world standard" in Mathematics and Engineering in the 2018 Excellence in Research Australia (ERA) evaluation. UniSA was the highest rated university in the 2018 Engagement and Impact (EI) evaluation in the field of IT, being the only university in Australia to receive a top rating in all three evaluation criteria in this field.
The Future Industries Institute? brings together world-class strength in high-tech manufacturing, nanomedicine, minerals and resource engineering plus environmental science, with the end goal of building economic growth through innovative partnerships and translational research. The Institute builds on the significant capability, infrastructure and reputation of the University’s existing research strengths and substantial research infrastructure and supports state and national research priorities.
Core Responsibilities
- Plan and execute research plans in the area of Conceptual Modelling in a hands-on capacity on the ‘Open Specification for Analytics Interoperability’ project and within the environment of the AI and Software Engineering laboratory, Industrial AI Research Centre
- Undertake day-to-day management of the research project to achieve project milestones, contribute to new ideas and approaches to support the development of innovative technologies
- Design and perform evaluations on prototype system developed together with FEnEx CRC partners or used within the FEnEx CRC context
- Prepare or contribute to the preparation of refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
- Supervise, train and support postgraduate students, internship students and visiting students, where appropriate
Essential Skills and Experience
- A PhD in computer science or a relevant discipline
- Experience and strong research and development skills in data management, data integration, and related area
- Evidence of a strong track record of high-quality journal publications and conference presentations in the fields of data management, ontologies, conceptual modelling and/or closely related areas
- Excellent written and oral communication skills demonstrated through written work such as research reports, research publications and educational materials, and through effective liaison with external partners, colleagues and students
- Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills that contribute to effective team processes and building of constructive relationships at all levels
