The Clinical Research Unit (CRU) is a newly established initiative of UNSW Faculty of Medicine and Health as part of the UNSW Health 25 Strategy. The broad objective of the CRU is to support academic researchers to have the relevant expertise, systems and tools to allow efficient, high quality, impactful research to be conducted across UNSW and its affiliated networks. The unit will partner with researchers to develop and deliver on impactful clinical research.

Why Your Role Matters:

As the Senior Research Fellow/Associate Professor (Biostatistics), you will play a key role in design and delivery of clinical research facilitated through UNSW Medicine & Health’s CRU. The position will be embedded across the Kirby Institute and The George Institute (Sydney office) and is expected to contribute to research conducted across both institutes and develop new research projects in collaboration with CRU.

The role of Senior Research Fellow/Associate Professor (Biostatistics) reports to Program Head Biostatistics and Databases Program at Kirby Institute and has no direct reports.

Who You Are:

Level C

  • A PhD in a related discipline, and/or relevant work experience.
  • Experience as a statistician in medical research
  • Excellent working knowledge of one of the major statistical package (SAS, R or STATA)
  • Understanding of data management principles for clinical trials and medical research
  • Applied knowledge of advanced statistical models, such as generalized linear models, survival analyses and mixed models
  • Experience managing projects including good time management skills.
  • Working knowledge of regulatory requirements for clinical trials and medical research
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work autonomously, in small teams and with a wide range of varying stakeholders
  • Ability to be flexible and adaptable in the face of changing organisational priorities and ambiguous environments

Level D (in addition to above):

  • Proven commitment to proactively keeping up to date with discipline knowledge and developments.
  • Significant track record in research leadership with outcomes of high quality and high international impact.
  • Demonstrated academic excellence and outstanding contribution to research and scholarship.
  • Demonstrated leadership in building engagement and partnerships with the profession and/or industry.
