The University of Western Australia (UWA) is ranked among the top 100 universities in the world and a member of the prestigious Australian Group of Eight research intensive universities. With a strong research track record, vibrant campus and working environments, supported by the freedom to innovate and inspire, there is no better time to join Western Australia’s top university.
About the team
This position is based within the Epigenetics and Genomics Laboratory, led by Ryan Lister and located at the Harry Perkins institute of Medical Research and the UWA Centre for Medical Research (CMR), within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences. The Lister Lab is comprised of molecular, cellular, and computational biologists, forming a multi-disciplinary team environment undertaking a diverse range of epigenetics and genomics research. We use molecular, cellular, genomic, and computational approaches in multiple systems to investigate cellular mechanisms that control the usage of information encoded in the genome, and their roles in cell function and development. We have a particular interest in characterization and manipulation of the epigenome and cell identity using genomic and synthetic approaches.
About the opportunity
As a Postdoctoral Research Associate / Research Fellow you will lead the computational components of research projects using high-throughput single cell and spatial epigenome profiling to investigate epigenome patterns and dynamics in the context of mammalian development, cell reprogramming, and epigenome editing.
You will also collaborate closely with with experimental biologists in the group and will lead the computational analysis and interpretation of genomic datasets, in addition to contributing to experimental design and project direction.
The Research Fellow position will additionally supervise graduate and undergraduate students, play a role in bids for research funding, and engage with a network of contacts in local, national and international institutions for the purposes of research collaboration.
About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:
- PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Molecular Biology, or related discipline.
- A demonstrable track record in excellence in research evidenced by peer-reviewed journal articles published in high quality journals relative to opportunity.
- A background in computational biology and experience in single cell genomics.
- Previous experience in the analysis of high-throughput sequencing data and statistical modeling of high-dimensional data.
- Expertise in regulatory genomics analyses and genome scale integrative analysis of experimental datasets (e.g. RNA-seq, ChIP-seq, DNA methylation, chromatin accessibility, sequence analysis).
- An understanding of the experimental techniques underlying such genomics experiments.
- Ability to establish computational approaches for single cell genomics data analysis specific to the research project, and where appropriate aid colleagues in the use of such approaches.
- Experience in teaching and supervising new researchers and students in the use and development of computational research approaches relevant to his/her project.
To be considered as a level B Research Fellow, a candidate should meet the above criteria and additionally:
- A demonstrable emerging track record of successful competitive funding applications.
- Demonstrate evidence of successful supervision or co-supervision of HDR students, relative to opportunity.
- Demonstrable experience of participation in education/research leadership in public engagements that promote research and/or education outcome, government and industry.
