Position Summary:
The Vandal Gateway Program in collaboration with the Department of English at the University of Idaho seeks to hire an instructor of English composition. This is a non-tenure-track, 9-month Instructor Faculty position with a 4/4 teaching load at lower-division undergraduate levels. This position serves students in the Vandal Gateway Program (VGP). VGP serves first-year students who are likely to enter the university academically underprepared and at higher risk of stopping out or facing academic disqualification. VGP students benefit from additional support, encouragement, and communication as they develop their academic skills. This position is part of team where weekly communication about student engagement is essential.
This position is responsible for teaching, advising students, leading and serving on committees, and contributing to program development. The Instructor will have duel reporting lines to the Director of the Vandal Gateway Program and the Department of English.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Master’s degree in English or closely related field;
• 1+ year of related work experience;
• Experience with teaching in a classroom andcurricular development.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Ph.D. in English or related field;• Experience teaching general education courses (e.g., philosophy, history, political science, communication, etc.);• Training in rhetorical and/or composition theory and pedagogy;• Experience working with co-requisite remediation/support or similar program;• Demonstrated excellent interpersonal communication skills;• Demonstrated experience working in a collaborative environment;
• Demonstrated program leadership;
• Demonstrated experience teaching culturally diverse students.
