Innovation is the lifeblood of the University of Southampton. Powered by world-class research, we’re growing a portfolio of spin-out companies, enabling the development of products and services that benefit people, businesses and the wider economy. Join us as a Commercialisation Manager (Social Sciences) and you’ll play a pivotal part in this.

Your role

You’ll be joining a university that is ranked number one in the UK for consultancy income generated and that has started 78 spinout and start-up companies since 2000. Your work could help support projects such as the impact of ageing populations, healthcare provision modelling, enhancing mathematics education through classroom resources, archaeological computing and many more.

You will:

  • Work on a portfolio of commercialisation projects to further increase the University’s impact, including by generating ‘public good’
  • Help manage relationships with key academic staff to understand their research expertise and identify new innovation and impact creation opportunities
  • Use your strong organisational and inter-personal skills to succeed in large, collaborative teams.

You

Previous commercial experience is highly desirable for this role, along with the ability to commercially evaluate potential opportunities, form great partnerships with and advise leading University research groups and develop networks with external stakeholders such as social enterprise companies, charities, and local and central government .

If you have a relevant postgraduate degree or a professional qualification and industry experience and have a keen interest in University commercialisation activity, we’d love to hear from you.

In return, you can look forward to an excellent benefits package and a flexible home/office hybrid working model supporting real work/life balance.

Our vision and mission at the University of Southampton is to have a community where staff and students feel welcome, supported and valued. This environment fosters a culture of inclusion, respect and equality of opportunity, encouraging applicants from diverse backgrounds, with the belief that excellence will be achieved through recognising the value of every individual.
