The Department and role purpose
The Directorate of Advanced Research Computing (ARC) provides a focal point for a broad computational capability that underpins and helps define the nature of research and innovation that can be undertaken with the institution.
ARC's mission is to deliver a coherent strategy for the computational support of for research: enabling research and innovation to be at the forefront of computational practice; enabling academic leadership through the adoption and evolution of leading technology; fostering associated expertise; and enhancing interdisciplinary collaborations. Leading-edge platforms including High Performance Computing, computational and cutting-edge data analytics methods, and growth and retention of vital capacity in research software engineering and technical R&D are at the core of this endeavour.
The post holder will assist the Senior Administrator of the department and will provide professional, enthusiastic support to the operational running of the department, as well as the Research Software Engineering team and the Research Computing Platforms team where possible. Whilst working towards the Advanced Apprenticeship in Business Administration at Level 3, the post holder will also develop skills in collaboration, effective communication & time management and build on existing potential. They will also develop an understanding of the University systems as they become familiar with processes surrounding Finance, Procurement & Research Innovations Services, whilst fostering relationships across different levels. There will also be opportunities to assist other University Research Institutes in the future.
As this is a learning and development role, the post holder is expected to be willing and passionate about growing their knowledge within the sector, whilst striving towards their qualification. The expectation is that, once the apprenticeship is complete, the post holder will advance to a substantive Grade 4 role within the department and continue to support the administrative team.
