The Position

This position presents an opportunity for a motivated early career researcher to work with the Climate and Fluid Physics (CFP) group and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Climate Extremes (CLEX) at the Research School of Earth Sciences. The CFP group conducts research spanning ocean, atmosphere and climate dynamics, water resources, radiative transfer, thermodynamics, and fundamental fluid mechanics. The successful candidate will work on the development and evaluation of parameterisations for internal tides in next-generation ocean models. The role will include running and analysing high resolution ocean model simulations to examine the influence of tides on ocean heat uptake and other key processes relevant to the climate system. The successful candidate will have a strong research profile in oceanography or a related field, and experience in numerical modelling.

The Postdoctoral/Research Fellow will be a member of Research School of Earth Sciences (RSES). RSES is Australia’s leading academic research institution for Earth and Marine Sciences, and ranked 14th in the world for Earth and Marine Sciences (QS World University Rankings by Subject 2022). The Person

To excel in this role you will have a strong track record of independent research in oceanography or a related field and the ability to articulate and prosecute innovate research. Your ability to lead by example, coupled with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, will enable you to foster respectful and productive working relationships with staff, students and colleagues at all levels within RSES in line with the RSES Culture Statement.
