Job Summary

The Columbus State University Joyce and Henry Schwob School of Music seeks an exceptional performer and double bass teacher to serve as a Lecturer in Music - Double Bass, to begin August 2023. This is a full time, non-tenure track, ten-month position. The successful candidate will be a dedicated teacher, a performer with an interest in a wide repertoire, and a collegial member of a faculty that values mutual support and student success.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include:
  • Recruit, maintain, and teach a full studio of double bass students, including students pursuing undergraduate degrees, the Master of Music degree, and the Artist Diploma. Teaching will include instruction in pedagogy, literature, and audition excerpts.
  • Build relationships with local, regional and national trumpet (and related) professional organizations.
  • Maintain an active performance schedule and appropriate creative activities as scholarship.
  • Participate in department, university and professional service.
  • Coordinate chamber music and ensemble assignments, juries, and related matters with the brass faculty and ensemble conductors.
  • Mentor and advise double bass students from pre-matriculation through graduation.
  • Teach other music courses as assigned by the Director of the School of Music.


Required Qualifications

Candidates will possess either a Master's degree or significant professional accomplishments in lieu of the degree (DMA preferred). The successful candidate will have demonstrated success in recruiting talented students.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference may be given to candidates with experience in teaching at the college level and to candidates who have held one or more professional performance appointments.
