An enthusiastic and creative team of medical educators are working within the Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences to develop a new School of Medicine and we are looking for a Lead for Physiology, Acute, and Intensive Care Medicine to join the team at this exciting time. The successful candidate will have a key role coordinating the development and delivery of teaching and assessment in physiology, acute, and intensive care medicine across all four years of the Graduate Entry Medicine (GEM) programme.

Our programme aims to produce a new type of doctor - excellent and holistic clinical leaders who can drive change, delivering integrated, and technologically advanced healthcare for their patients and communities. The programme will have a particular emphasis on digital and communication health technology (a research strength at Surrey), as well as a ‘One Health’ ethos that promotes understanding of a ‘whole society’ approach to health and builds on our aims to develop truly interprofessional training, with networks across Health Sciences, Psychology, Veterinary Medicine, and Biosciences, as well as Engineering and Business.

The role

The post holder will work within the Medical School Leadership Team to develop and maintain an innovative spiral curriculum addressing physiology, acute, and intensive care medicine. You will ensure the delivery of high-quality teaching and assessment across these areas, making certain that our curriculum meets the requirements of Outcomes for Graduates and prepares our students for success in the Medical Licensing Assessment Knowledge Test and Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment.

You’ll be there for our students throughout their Surrey journey, acting as a point of contact for feedback, working alongside and advising those experiencing academic difficulties, and helping us to achieve the highest levels of student satisfaction.

About you

To join us at this exciting time, you will be a forward-looking individual with a ‘can do’ attitude and the ambition to achieve personally. You’ll have full GMC registration, alongside a higher professional qualification (usually a doctoral degree or equivalent), and will have a significant academic publication record.

An excellent communicator, you’ll have the ability to use tact, diplomacy, and empathy to build effective working relationships at all levels. You’ll be comfortable leading, including making and conveying difficult decisions, but will also work well alongside a range of internal and external stakeholders. You will certainly have the opportunity to use your skills and networks in concert with the complementary activities of our existing staff based across our wider Faculty who are tackling some of the major challenges facing society, including an ageing population, disease burden and food security.

You may wish to take this role as a joint appointment in tandem with existing clinical duties (in which case, your current NHS salary may apply).
