At the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences, Institute of Transport Planning and Road Traffic, the Chair of Transport Modelling and Simulation offers a position as

Research Associate / Postdoc (m/f/x)
 (subject to personal qualification employees are remunerated according to salary group E 13 TV-L)

starting as soon as possible. The position is limited for two years. The period of employment is governed by the Fixed Term Research Contracts Act (Wissenschaftszeitvertragsgesetz-WissZeitVG). The position offers the chance to obtain further academic qualification.

The chair is investigating models, algorithms and simulations to achieve an enhanced scientific understanding of transport systems spanning microscopic, mesoscopic and macroscopic levels. Of particular focus will be automated planning methods that leverage emerging data and novel metrics that embed ethics-based concepts including equity and fairness within mobility systems. This position will be closely involved in developing and implementing the new methodologies thereby helping to create more equitable and efficient transport outcomes for society.

Tasks

  • initiate, develop and maintain software in the support of research and industry projects in the area of transport modelling and simulation;
  • work collaboratively with researchers in the usage of the developed software;
  • contribute to the writing of scientific papers and reports for international journals and progress reporting to other researchers and industry partners; 
  • assist with the coordination of research activities and actively contribute to research outputs to meet project milestones; 
  • contribute to the preparation of research proposal submissions to funding bodies; 
  • participate in and/or present at conferences and/or workshops relevant to the project as required; 
  • assist with the supervision of research students in the research area where required. 

Requirements

  • appropriate certification: university degree, evidenced track record in the area of full stack software development or implementation of specialized transport modelling software;
  • well-established experience with a range of relevant computer programming languages such as Python, R, C/C++ and/or Java, etc.;
  • strong ability and desire to learn new programming languages and technologies as needed by collaborative research activities;
  • demonstrated ability to work in a team, collaborate across disciplines and build effective relationships;
  • strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to communicate (written and oral in English) and interact with a diverse range of stakeholders and students.
