The University of Portsmouth is an ambitious institution with a track record of success. One of only four universities in the south east of England to achieve a Gold rating in the Teaching Excellence Framework and ranked in the top 150 in the Times Higher Young University World Rankings.
The School of Criminology and Criminal Justice is the largest criminology department in the UK with an established presence in undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral education, complemented by a successful applied criminology research profile. As part of a national consortium of Higher Education providers, we have secured the tender to provide a Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship, and a Degree Holder Entrant Programme, for newly recruited Police Constables in Surrey and Sussex Police and Hampshire Constabulary. This contract success has led to the need for additional staff capacity in a range of roles to work with us and support the delivery of these important programmes. Work Based Tutors provide academic and pastoral support to student officers undertaking either a Degree Apprenticeship or Graduate Diploma. Acting as personal tutors to student cohorts, our work based tutors play an essential role in supporting student success through 1-2-1 meetings, taught sessions and partnership working with other university services.
All posts will be based at the University of Portsmouth. Travel to off-campus locations will be required in all cases.
This role requires access to police premises and engagement with police officers and staff. As such we will require the successful candidate to undertake the Non-Police Personnel Vetting (NPPV) process.
