About the Role 

The Research Associate will contribute to the research activities as part of the Unlocking Complex Resources through Lean Processing Research Consortia Program (RCP) research project related to multivariate sensing and data analytics in mineral processing circuits. Primarily, the Research Associate will investigate existing and new sensor suite for process control, and data analytics on the critical process variable information collected during downstream ore processing.

Core Responsibilities 

  • Conduct high-quality research project, under limited supervision and in collaboration with industry and other stakeholders, in the area of sensing and data analytics applied to minerals grinding, flotation, and leaching circuits
  • Assist HDR students participating in the same research
  • Statistically analyse results and prepare or contribute findings for reports as required
  • Prepare refereed journal publications, conference and seminar papers arising from the research
  • Ensure all experimentation is performed in compliance with Work Health Safety and Injury Management policies, procedures and principles

Essential Skills and Experience

  • A PhD degree or relevant experience in Mineral Resource Engineering or related field, with strong mineral processing background
  • Knowledge and experience in metallurgical data analysis, and simulation and modelling of process flow sheets
  • Demonstrated ability to apply statistical methods of data analysis for interpretation of analytical results pertaining to experimental factors in a multidiscipline project
  • Demonstrated project management skills, including the ability to initiate, plan and manage projects ensuring milestones are met
  • Demonstrated ability to lead small research team and mentor junior staff
