The Department of Sociology invites applications for a Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Media and Communications to join the Leverhulme News Use project, funded by the Leverhulme Trust, and led by Professor Ranjana Das as PI, and Dr Tom Roberts and Dr Emily Setty as Co-Is. The project explores the ways in which parents engage with the news, in relation to risks and crises, in digital and datafied societies.
Work on this two-year, fixed-term, full-time project will involve all aspects of the project including reviewing literature, designing data collection, collecting and analysing qualitative as well as quantitative data, writing up outputs for academic and non-academic publications, and work on public engagement and impact.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in hand in Media and Communications, or closely related areas, with evidenced expertise in researching media and technology users and audiences. Methodological expertise will ideally include experience of survey research and/or quantitative methods, experience of qualitative data collection and analyses, and experience of news and/or audience research. The fellow will also have excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and as part of a team. The fellow should have familiarity with data analyses software packages for both quantitative (essential) and qualitative analyses (desirable).
