Professor Seppo Meri’s complement research unit at the Translational Immunology Research Program, Department of Bacteriology and Immunology, Haartman Institute, Faculty of Medicine, University of Helsinki, invites applications for a position of a research assistant for a fixed term. https://www.helsinki.fi/en/researchgroups/complement-group

The Complement unit, led by Prof. Meri, has for long had an interest in sorting out how and why the complement system contributes to disease pathogenesis, how the system is controlled and how pathogenic microbes, parasites and tumor cells escape complement attack. We have a position for a fixed term (till 31.8.2023) for a research assistant who is motivated to participate in investigating key open questions in the fields of innate immunity, microbial pathogenesis, malaria, and complement evasion.

The candidate most suitable for the position has B.Sc./M.Sc. in a relevant field (Microbiology/biochemistry/molecular biology) and is expected to be enthusiastic about scientific research and keen to learn new techniques. Furthermore, he/she should have strong English communication skills and ability to work in an international environment. Experience in molecular biology techniques (e.g., PCR and SDS-PAGE and Western blots), cell culture, bacterial culture, and flow cytometry is beneficial. Research assistants must be hired from among University of Helsinki undergraduates, and the work must be related to their studies.

The work is supervised by principal investigator Ayman Khattab (Ph.D., Doc.). Monthly salary will be around 2200€ - 2500€. Deadline for the applications is Friday, 31 March 2023.
