Job Summary:

Department of Bioengineering has an opening for a full-time Postdoctoral Research Fellow.
The Translational Biomaterials Research Laboratory (TBRL) in the Bioengineering Department at the University of Colorado Denver Anschutz Medical Campus is looking for a postdoctoral research fellow who has experience in synthesis and engineering of functional biomaterials for tissue engineering application and animal studies in tissue engineering. The candidate must be willing to work both independently and in an interdisciplinary team of engineers, clinicians, and industrial partners.
Key Responsibilities:
    Collect native tissues from animals including brain, heart and optic nerve Perform the decellularization of tissues and further chemical modification to induce polymerizable functional groups Build mechanical property-variable three-dimensional disease model for the mechanobiology in neural diseases including Alzheimer's disease and optic neuropathies Optimize the 3D model by rheology studies Grow ocular or brain organoids using human iPSCs and monitor neural or ocular cell behavior in the 3D model and explore gene expression changes using PCR and RNA-seq analysis including sample preparations Train PhD, MS, and undergraduate students in PI's lab for iPSC cultures and basic polymerization skills Help PI with grant application including data processing and small section of grant writing

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
  • A PhD degree or equivalent doctorate degree from an accredited college or university awarded in a relevant discipline such as Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or other closely related field.
  • At least 3 years of experience in polymers synthesis.
  • Published work in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with hydrogel, dECM-based biomaterial design.
  • Experience working with hydrogel biomaterials as cell culture platforms.
  • Mentorship/leadership experience.
  • Previous experience writing grant applications and obtaining funding.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to characterize products of polymer synthesis.
  • The ability to work independently and collaboratively within a research team.
  • Ability to monitor cellular changes in response to biomaterials.

Special Conditions of Employment:
  • This position may require occasional extended hours and/or time outside normal working hours.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range for this position is based on the current NIH postdoctoral pay scale guidelines has been established as HIRING RANGE:

$54,840 to $55,224 

The above salary range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position is not eligible for overtime compensation unless it is non-exempt.
