Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is seeking a Associate Professor / Professor in Creative Practice (Film, Screen & Animation) to join School of Creative Practice, Faculty of Creative Industries, Education and Social Justice, Academic Division.

The School of Creative Practice seeks to appoint an Associate Professor/ Professor in Creative Practice (Film, Screen, Animation), with a strong background in emerging technologies and production, with a focus on Animation, Game Design and Interactivity. We invite applications from scholars who have an international reputation for excellence in leading, designing and delivering curriculum innovation, and research expertise which spans traditional screen, and a range of experimental and emerging film, animation, interactive and immersive media and games forms, positioning the School as a leader shaping the future convergences of screen and the XR sectors.

The Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) curriculum is currently being reaccredited and this presents new and exciting opportunities for the School. Our courses provide a ‘space to create’ for students, where technical proficiency is combined with learning how to make meaning, being collaborative, and socially engaged practitioners. Individuals wishing to further their skills and knowledge through postgraduate study, can undertake practice-led or practice-based research programs which are internationally renowned for their innovative, creative, and commercial contributions to Creative Industries and broader industry fields. The School has established international connections including teaching and research partnerships with leading institutions and organisations across Austria, China, East Timor, France, Germany, Norway, Indonesia, South Africa, South America, United Kingdom, and the United States.

What you need to succeed

You will demonstrate:

  1. Completion of a doctoral qualification.
  2. An international research profile in screen production or screen industries as evidenced by high-quality research publications, competitive research funding, external impact and engagement, and attraction of higher degree research students that broadly aligns with at least two of the following thematic areas: 
    • Animation and Film
    • Emergent digital technologies including Virtual Production and Games
    • Interactive media including Virtual, Augmented and/or Extended Realities
  3. An exceptional track record of academic leadership which builds an inspirational and research-led teaching culture for academic staff and students, including innovative curriculum design and delivery at undergraduate and postgraduate levels, and capacity to design non-award or micro-credential offerings with positive student feedback.
  4. An exceptional track record of academic leadership, mentorship and capacity building which supports an ambitious, collaborative, and team-oriented research culture.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead and influence innovative learning and teaching through future-focused curriculum design, fostering cooperation and collaboration with evidence in leading and coordinating a team in curriculum review, academic standards assessment, and quality assurance processes, including promoting and advancing best practice in scholarship of learning and teaching.
  6. Demonstrated leadership in identifying, establishing, and maintaining collaborative external partnerships which strengthen institutional profile and/or advance new research, teaching and industry engagement opportunities.
  7. Demonstrated leadership in using contemporary and emerging digital approaches, methods, and tools to develop innovative approaches to learning, curriculum development, research and industry practice.
  8. Demonstrated experience as a member of a management or leadership team that identifies and achieves strategic goals in collaboration with school, faculty, and university counterparts.

Remuneration: Total remuneration range AUD$185,226 to AUD$204,076 pa (LEVD) OR $AUD$238,612 pa (LEVE); (inclusive AUD$156,518 to AUD$172,446 pa (LEVD) salary p.a. OR AUD$201,630 (LEVE) salary p.a.; 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Location: Kelvin Grove (hybrid option available)
