The University of Southampton is one of the world’s leading universities. We are consistently placed in the top 100 universities in the world by the QS World University Rankings. There are currently in excess of 24,000 students on campus in the UK. Using conventional business metrics, the University is a large enterprise with an annual turnover of over £500m and a staff establishment in excess of 5,000 FTE.

The Governance, Legal and Strategy Implementation Directorate is a recently formed Directorate at the University, with an exciting remit across Corporate Governance, Information Governance and Legal work alongside Strategy development and implementation. We have an exciting opportunity to join the Directorate to support a Strategic Major Project, Modernising the University’s Governance (MTG).

Working within the Information Governance team, this role will be responsible for operationally driving the Policy Review project, working with the Head of Information Governance and the Executive Director and on the delivery of significant strategic outcomes. The MTG programme is one of the University’s largest major projects and within it, you will have the opportunity to shape and support new ways of working across the organisation.

As a member of the team, you will need a proven  ability to build strong, productive relationships with a diverse stakeholder group – including academic and research staff, heads of the University’s professional services functions and key external suppliers and partners.

You should have previous experience of working in large project delivery, governance or information compliance and ideally within a higher education setting. You should also have a proactive and creative approach. Please see the job specification for full role details.

Working at the University of Southampton gives you access to a wide range of benefits in addition to our competitive rates of pay. Our core benefits include pension scheme membership; a generous annual leave allowance (supplemented by University closure days and public holidays) and excellent family leave arrangements (including maternity, paternity, adoption and parental leave). All our benefits can be viewed here.

We welcome applications from candidates who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment. We encourage applications from candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic communities, people who identify as LGBTQ+; and people with disabilities. We would particularly welcome applications from candidates from working class, first generation Higher Education, the Global South and other underrepresented groups.

Committed to supporting our staff and students, we are open to a flexible working approach.  We give full consideration to applicants that wish to work flexibly and those who have taken a career break.
