Are you passionate about sustainability work? Do you also have strong Data Analyst skills? Do you want a role well you can combine both of these interests and make a real world difference? Then we have the job for you!

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is committed to a transformational programme to address carbon reduction and sustainability with implications for our strategies, systems, processes and culture. To support NIHR’s approach to net zero and sustainability, we are appointing to a new role of Senior Sustainability Analyst.

Who are we?

NIHR works in partnership with the NHS, universities, local government, other research funders, patients and the public. We fund, enable and deliver world-leading health and social care research that improves people's health and wellbeing and promotes economic growth. We are also a major funder of applied health research in low and middle income countries.

This is a national post hosted within the NIHR coordinating centre within the School of Healthcare Enterprise and Innovation at the University of Southampton.

What will you be doing?

Climate change is a major challenge to public health in the UK and globally, which risks increasing health inequalities, and the NIHR recognises the key role it must play in driving and promoting ‘net zero’. To help with this, the post holder will help support the development and delivery of the NIHR Sustainability Strategy. This role will lead on data-related aspects of the sustainability team’s activities including the collection and analysis of that data to help inform the operational and strategic decisions based on evidence.

Who are we looking for?

As well as clearly being passionate for this area of work, we are looking for a candidate with the technical and numerate ability to help drive this work forward. You will have significant experience of working with all types of data, with the ability to analyse and interpret the results. Other key skills to be successful in this role are:

  • Able to build strong relationships with a range of stakeholders.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly with the ability to effectively negotiate and influence others.
  • Able to convey technical principles to a non-technical audience.
  • Qualification and/or experience in environmental sustainability can be advantageous.

How do we look after you?

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so rather than take our word for it why not listen to our staff about what it is really like working here:

We are proactive in fostering a culture of inclusion, respect, and equality of opportunity. We select candidates based on merit and ability. We welcome applications from all with an interest in the role and those who are committed to helping us create an inclusive work environment.

We also know that the world of work has changed and so we are open to flexible working arrangements and work in a hybrid way with staff expected to attend our Chilworth offices around 20% of the time.
