Job Description
The candidate will work with research and development projects exploring the synthesis, classification, purification, passivation/functionalisation of carbon-based nanomaterials at the Centre for Advanced 2D Materials at the National University of Singapore.
- Propose, conduct, and optimise synthesis methods of carbon-based nanomaterials
- Propose, conduct, and optimise size classification methods
- Propose, conduct, and optimise purification methods
- Propose, conduct, and optimise passivation/functionalisation methods
- Review technical and scientific literature and prepare presentations or proposals for discussion
- Design, establish, and write standard operating procedures for processing routes, equipment usage, and training
- Calibrate and maintain equipment assigned
- Perform laboratory analysis, evaluate and discuss the results, and present reports
- Manage general laboratory inventory (e.g., consumable inventory)
- Work in a laboratory environment within a team of multidisciplinary researchers
- Participate in routine housekeeping
Job Requirements
- The candidate must hold an internationally recognised PhD degree, preferably in chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science or engineering, or equivalent
- Experience working on synthesis and characterisation of carbon nanomaterials (preferably oxide)
- Experience working with size classification and purification systems
- Experience on passivation/functionalisation of carbon nanoparticles
- Experience working on stablisation and characterisation of colloidal suspensions
- Experience working in wet chemistry laboratory and cleanroom environment
Additionally, the candidate should be/have:
- Accountable for technical deliverables and milestones according to agreed timelines
- Self-motivated to study and achieve proposed goals
- Able to troubleshoot and root cause analysis
It is a bonus if the candidate has:
- Knowledge on pilot or industrial processes above described
- Knowledge or previous experience on upscaling processes
- knowledge and experience in analytical techniques and sample preparation (e.g., TEM, SEM, FTIR, TGA, DSC, XPS, DRX, AFM, QMS, CHNS, ICP, Raman, PL, and fluorescence microscopy)
- Previous experience working in an industrial environment or in research and development projects with industrial partners
- Previous experience working on synthesis/characterisation of carbon dots, carbon quantum dots, carbon nanodots, or graphene quantum dots
