We have an exciting opportunity available for a Translation Studies specialist to join the Centre for Translation Studies at the University of Surrey, to cover a maternity leave post. The Centre for Translation Studies (CTS) has recently expanded its research, teaching and innovation activities, thanks to an ‘Expanding Excellence in England’ (E3) award by Research England. The expansion programme focusses on the convergence of human and automated approaches to translation, audiovisual translation and interpreting in order to future-proof translation and interpreting studies and practice in the era of rapid advances in AI and other data-driven technologies, information and communication technologies and other digital tools and environments.

We welcome applications from Translation Studies specialists with expertise across a variety of practice or research settings to contribute broadly to the expansion programme. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, machine translation and post editing, technologies for machine-assisted translation, translation platforms, translation workflows, translation market development and translation pedagogy.

We are keen to appoint a Translation Studies specialist who works well as a member of a multidisciplinary team and is passionate about contributing to all aspects of our expansion programme. The post-holder must hold a post-graduate degree in translation, or equivalent, and will be expected to contribute towards teaching, learning and professional development, project supervision and development of links with non-academic partners, in addition to day-to-day administrative tasks of the programme.

The post is fixed-term until 15 October 2023 but there is a possibility to extend if external funding can be secured.

For an informal discussion regarding this post, please contact Prof Sabine Braun, Director of CTS by email (s.braun@surrey.ac.uk).
