Job Description

The Mechanobiology Institute, Singapore, is a multidisciplinary institute committed to developing new paradigms for biomedical research by focusing on the quantitative analysis of dynamic functional processes. Through quantitative biophysical approaches, we address major problems in biomedical sciences, including pathogenesis (from bacterial to cancer), tissue regeneration, and function.

Asst. Prof. Chan seeks a highly motivated individual to join his laboratory on Mammalian Development and Tissue Hydraulics as a postdoctoral fellow at the Mechanobiology Institute in the National University of Singapore. His laboratory seeks to understand the mechanobiological principles underlying ovarian follicle development, using ex vivo mouse ovary and follicle culture.

Project Scope

The candidate will have a chance to apply and develop interdisciplinary approaches to investigate how tissue mechanics and fluid pressure control ovarian follicle growth and ovulation. The candidate will combine quantitative imaging with microfluidics and biomechanical tools to study the mechanochemical roles of fluid in driving antral follicle development and ovulation. He/she will also collaborate closely with in-house theoreticians to develop biophysical models, and participate in ongoing collaborations with researchers in Australia and Europe.

Qualifications

Candidates should hold or be about to obtain a PhD in one of the disciplines below:

  • Biomechanics, bioengineering, applied physics, or related fields
  • Developmental biology
  • Cell/molecular biology, or related fields

Excellent knowledge and mastery in one or more of the skillsets below would be advantageous, though not a prerequisite:

  • Confocal bioimaging and quantitative image analysis; experience in 2-photon microscopy or lightsheet microscopy would be preferable
  • Some experience using biomechanical tools to study cell or tissue mechanics
  • Experience in microfluidics or mice work

Candidates should also possess the following qualities:

  • Excellent written and interpersonal communication skills and the ability to work well in an interdisciplinary team
  • Highly motivated and independent
  • Organized, dedicated and reliable
