Overview

ECU’s School of Science and Centre for Marine Ecosystems Research are seeking a coastal ecologist to join a team to research the ecological roles and functions of intertidal benthic communities and habitats in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The postdoctoral research fellow will work in a team to design, carry out, analyse and report on field studies and aquarium experiments to assess spatial and temporal patterns in primary productivity and nutrient flows and associated drivers. 

Skills and Experience

Prospective candidates should have a Ph.D. degree in marine ecology with experience in collecting data on primary productivity, nutrient pools and flows in coastal marine systems. They should also have experience in experimental field and mesocosm studies, quantitative statistical analysis and scientific publishing. Experience in determining the flow of nutrients and energy using stable isotopes would be desirable. The ability to work in remote locations as part of a multi-disciplinary team, good interpersonal communication and presentation skills is important. Knowledge of the ecology of intertidal coastal systems comprising cyanobacteria mats, mangrove and saltmarshes will be an advantage.

Benefits & Remuneration

This full time, fixed term position attracts remuneration of $105,832 to $125,043 plus 17% University superannuation contribution.
