The School of Arts, Languages and Cultures at the University of Manchester invites applications for a permanent post as Lecturer in Computational Linguistics. You hold a PhD and have a developing profile of excellence in research in the field of Computational Linguistics. Your work will have the potential to make contact with linguistic theory, ideally at the level of grammar or discourse level, and you are enthusiastic about engaging in research collaborations within the Department of Linguistics and English Language and the University. You have experience in the delivery of innovative research-led teaching and the ability to plan and design new course units, especially at postgraduate level. A focus on languages other than English is welcome but not essential.
You will be expected to make a strong contribution to the international research community in Computational Linguistics by publishing high-quality peer-reviewed research outputs, applying for external funding, and recruiting and supervising PhD students. You will be expected to deliver innovative research-led teaching and contribute to curriculum design on the undergraduate programmes and master’s programmes offered by the Department, with a particular focus on the development and management of a new MSc Computational and Corpus Linguistics programme. You will be expected to provide academic and pastoral support to our students, undertake departmental service and leadership tasks, and participate in recruitment activities and staff-student events.
As an equal opportunities employer we welcome applicants from all sections of the community regardless of age, sex, gender (or gender identity), ethnicity, disability, sexual orientation and transgender status. All appointments are made on merit.
