About the opportunity

Custodial Services and Treasury directly manages the University's investment accounting back-office function, ensuring seamless and transparent information flows between Investment and Capital Management, and the University's investment custodian.

The Managers' primary role is to hold the Custodian accountable for provision of accurate and timely information to support investment decisions, trade settlements and management and statutory accounting and reporting for a complex investment portfolio; and similarly also supports the Treasurer in managing debt, banking, and credit rating agency relationships, liquidity management and FX risk management.

This management position is also responsible for ensuring the integrity of the University's cash flow forecasting model which is essential to the effective provision of liquidity to support the University's operations.

Your key responsibilities will be (but are not limited to):

  • strong, effective relationship management of key stakeholders to ensure time critical information is sourced and provided accurately in support of the Investment and Capital Management Team. provide subject matter advice across management accounting, general ledger control, cash flow and liquidity reporting including regular management reporting on the performance of the University's Future Fund.
  • take the lead on custodial services provision including analysis/reconciliation of investments, cash settlements, payable fees, contract management, auditing activities, and performance analysis
  • undertake policy review, development and implementation relating to Treasury and Custodial Services with reference to changes in legislation, regulation and accounting standards
  • leadership and development of two direct reports, ensuring service delivery excellence and by leading a collaborative, engaged and highly effective team
  • oversight and management of other administrative activities such as unit registry maintenance, management and statutory reporting, and provision of other ad hoc project support as required

About you

The successful candidate in this role will display both managerial and proven industry experience in Custodial Services specialisation and Management Accounting. Alongside this, we are seeking a highly effective individual whom:

  • demonstrates the required knowledge and experience in custody operations, treasury management, financial and management accounting, reporting and forecasting
  • displays knowledge of unitised investment fund management preferably developed through exposure to the superannuation or investment management industry in senior back-office management roles
  • exceptional people management capacity to lead team members, foster talent and drive career development of staff
  • strong communication and presentation skills with the ability to meaningfully deliver complex and detailed information including financial reports and analysis, to all levels of staff and external stakeholders
  • proven abilities in stakeholder management, with highly developed influencing and business partnering skills upholding trusted relationships with key internal and external stakeholders and customers
  • degree in Accounting or Commerce and/or equivalent combination of relevant training and industry experience
  • CA/CPA accreditation will be highly regarded, however not essential

Australian Temporary Residents currently employed at the University of Sydney may be considered for a fixed term contract for the length of their visa, depending on the requirements of the hiring area and the position.
