The School of Humanities and Social Sciences in the Faculty of Liberal Arts and Sciences at the University of Greenwich is seeking to appoint a Professor of Creative Writing (Novel Writing) with initial appointment as Academic Portfolio Leader for Creative Writing.

Based at the historic Old Royal Naval College in the Maritime Greenwich World Heritage Site, the School has a strong interdisciplinary ethos. We pride ourselves on the support we give to students throughout their studies, enhancing their knowledge, skill set, confidence, and employability

We are looking for a Professor and Academic Portfolio Leader to provide leadership of learning, teaching and research activity in Creative Writing. The successful candidate will be expected to provide operational leadership and line management for the Creative Writing programme team, to contribute to the successful delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching. They will also be expected to provide a substantial contribution to the research of the school, including the supervision of research students.  

The role of Academic Portfolio Lead is for an initial three years; after this period, the successful candidate can return to the Professor role with different responsibilities and workloads. The role holder's period of office may be extended beyond this initial three-year period subject to outstanding performance and review.

The successful candidate should be actively engaged in research and knowledge exchange activities that will contribute to Faculty and University strategies, helping to develop our national and international profile. They will have strong stakeholder relationships at regional, national and international levels in the discipline, and should have expertise which complements and extends our current provision.  

We are seeking a proactive, enthusiastic individual, committed to excellence in teaching, research and student support, to lead the dedicated Creative Writing team. Candidates must have excellent communication skills and a proven track record of successfully delivering high-quality teaching and research. 

The successful candidate must hold a PhD degree in a relevant subject, Postgraduate teaching qualification, Minimum of Associate Fellow of HEA or significant teaching experience or Appropriate professional qualification.
