Description
The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at San Diego State University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Statistics/Biostatistics, beginning in Fall 2023. Focused research areas include, but are not limited to, EHR/EMA data analytics, personalized medicine, broad area of data science, statistical learning, design and analysis of clinical trials, bioinformatics, longitudinal data analysis, and computationally intensive methods.


Qualifications
Candidates must have a Ph.D. in Statistics or Biostatistics and demonstrate excellent teaching skills and outstanding research potential. Preference may be given to candidates in the focused research areas described above and to those who would be able to augment or interact with existing groups within SDSU. Potential collaborations include the SDSU HealthLINK (https://healthlink.sdsu.edu/) and the Imperial County Clinical Research Network (ICCRN), among others. Candidates should demonstrate the potential and commitment to seek extramural funding. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to participate in our PhD program in Computational Science, as well as in our BS and MS programs in Statistics, Biostatistics, and Data Science.

We are seeking applicants with demonstrated experience in and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of underrepresented groups. Candidates must satisfy three or more of the eight Building on Inclusive Excellence (BIE) criteria. Candidates that meet BIE criteria: (a) are committed to engaging in service with underrepresented populations within the discipline, (b) have demonstrated knowledge of barriers for underrepresented students and faculty within the discipline, (c) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching and mentoring underrepresented students, (d) have experience or have demonstrated commitment to integrating understanding of underrepresented populations and communities into research, (e) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to extending knowledge of opportunities and challenges in achieving artistic/scholarly success to members of an underrepresented group, (f) have experience in or have demonstrated commitment to research that engages underrepresented communities, (g) have expertise or demonstrated commitment to developing expertise in cross-cultural communication and collaboration, and/or (h) have research interests that contribute to diversity and equal opportunity in higher education. Please indicate in a separate diversity statement how you meet at least three (3) of these criteria.

The anticipated salary for an assistant professor position is $5,405 - $11,994 academic year full- time monthly salary. This amount will vary according to candidate rank, experience, and market considerations specific to the scholarly discipline. Salary represents one component of a job offer that will also include a full benefits package, moving expenses, and start-up support.
