Communications Officer

At the University of Southampton, our aim is to change the world for the better, bringing together realms of academic research, creativity and knowledge to have a truly collaborative, immersive and ground-breaking impact. We care about the challenges that humanity is facing, and work to support others on a local and global scale.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Office of Development and Alumni Relations (ODAR) team at the University of Southampton, delivering a range of strategic content to our alumni and supporter community.

Working alongside a passionate team, you will support the communications function within ODAR with the creation, management, delivery and evaluation of Alumni and Supporter Engagement content for multiple communication channels, in order to strengthen our relationships with university alumni and supporters.

You will join at a pinnacle time as we are planning our biggest ever £100m Fundraising & Engagement Campaign, and you be part of the team working on the communications for this ground-breaking project.

About you

This is a role for people who love to write. You will have a passion for, and experience of, writing strong marketing and communications pieces such as case studies, articles, social media posts and brochure copy. Your communication skills will be exemplary as will your ability to work well with people at all levels. You will need to be proactive in your approach, seeking out current topical stories and ensuring we deliver timely, relevant content to our alumni and supporters.

You will be an outgoing, confident individual who is not afraid to get out amongst our community and engage - whether that is interviewing researchers, filming our beneficiaries, or getting pictures and stories of our graduands.

Possessing strong interpersonal skills, you will be able to prioritise and manage often conflicting demands and deadlines.

About us

We are planning our first University-wide fundraising and engagement campaign. Together, we want to raise more money and to engage more alumni and friends with Southampton so that we can change the world. And with the full support and investment of our University leadership, we are growing our team over the next few years.  We are so excited.

We need people with intellectual curiosity and people who have different ideas. We need people with direct experience or transferable skills and the interest and drive to take on a new challenge. We are actively determined to welcome a diverse group of colleagues into our inclusive team.  Every day will be different, you will meet incredible people and the rewards will be huge.

This could be a career-defining and remarkable opportunity. Help us change the world. Join us.

Thank you for your interest in joining our team
