About the position

Reporting to the Pro Vice-Chancellor, Recruitment and International Operations, the Director of Domestic Student Recruitment is responsible for leading the domestic student recruitment and sales function in order to achieve the strategic goals of revenue growth and outstanding student experience.

The role drives the development and implementation of a student acquisition and conversion strategy on behalf of the University. This includes leadership of domestic undergraduate and postgraduate sales and student recruitment operations and business development across Australia.

In supporting the University to become a market leader, the role is also responsible for enterprise-wide customer experience improvement and working with relevant areas from across the University to enhance student retention and advocacy.

The Recruitment and International Operations department plays a key role in the development of customer growth and stakeholder engagement strategies across all available markets and channels including domestic, regional, international markets and online.

Duties at this level:

  • Drive performance and quality to consistently achieve sales objectives and continuous improvement.
  • Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of strategic and operational sales and student recruitment plans, programs, and initiatives to align with La Trobe’s strategic plan.
  • Establish new and alternative revenue sources by growing the business development function and capability across the University.
  • Partner and collaborate with external stakeholders, government, industry, and targeted organisations to build market, product and customer growth strategies aligned to the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Leadership and oversight of sales and future student service delivery including the development and continued improvement of enhanced process design, CRM systems and customer engagement.
  • Development of a dynamic sales and customer service culture within the Recruitment and International Operations division.
  • Leadership of a targeted engagement strategy with key business partners including schools, school principals and career practitioners.
  • Lead / sponsor the major annual recruitment events for the University including but not limited to Open Days, Careers Expos, Experience La Trobe, Scholarship, Early Admission and mature age Post Graduate programs.

Skills and knowledge:

  • Considered a recognised expert in their field at a national level, with a depth and breadth of experience within the Australian higher education sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with complexity and ambiguity, show tenacity and resilience in striving for goals and in seeking creative, innovative and sustainable long term solutions to achieve the University’s Strategic Plan.
  • Exemplary leadership ability to communicate the University’s vision and strategic direction, establish a performance orientated culture and drive accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience in policy development and implementation, with an ability to enhance the standing of the University both locally and internationally.
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills including conflict resolution, tact and discretion; a capacity to negotiate outcomes with stakeholders and achieve results in an environment that is characterised by competing expectations and views; given the diverse context in which the University operates, ability to readily adapt communication approaches with changing audiences.
  • Proven experience and success in managing staff performance and development.
  • Extensive and relevant sales and student recruitment experience and substantial experience in a senior capacity within a large and complex organisation; or an equivalent alternate combination of relevant knowledge, training and/or experience.
  • Proven ability to build rapport with key leaders to develop relationships on a local, national, and international level to the advantage of the University.
  • Depth and breadth of experience within the Australian higher education sector would be advantageous but not essential.
  • A formal tertiary education.
