The Faculty of Health and Medical Sciences at the University of Surrey is a recognised world-leader in biosciences research and currently supports 4000 students in a variety of teaching environments.

We are looking to recruit a skilled laboratory technician who, under the direction of the research laboratory manager, is required to supervise a small technical team in the high-throughput decontamination and processing of teaching and research waste materials. Key duties include the planning/organising of the team to ensure a reliable, customer-friendly service, operation of the faculty’s 700L autoclaves and achieving efficient turnaround times for reusable lab equipment.

The ideal candidate will have experience of working in a laboratory environment, a good understanding of the Health & Safety aspects of working with biological/chemical contaminated materials, and a practical and methodical approach to work. This post requires a significant amount of manual handling and an ability to adapt to changes in the workload at peak times.

You will be interacting with students, academics and other members of the technical team on a daily basis. Delivering a high level of customer care will be an important aspect of this role.

In return we offer a generous pension and leave entitlement, relocation assistance where appropriate and flexible working options. Our benefits package also includes an exclusive discounted membership package to the Surrey Sports Park and an on-site nursery. Situated to the southwest of London, the University is based in Guildford which is easily accessible by rail and road.
