OPEN CALL FOR RESEARCH GRANT APPLICATION WITHIN THE TERMS LAID DOWN OF THE REGULATIONS FOR RESEARCH SCHOLARSHIPS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ALGARVE

Research Scholarship with Master degree (BI-M). One vacancy.

It is now open a call for one Research Grant with Master degree (BI-M), within the project 01/SAICT/2018/n 39547 IMPACTUR ALGARVE - "Platform to monitor, predict and simulate the tourism competitiveness of the Algarve within the national territory and Spanish Mediterranean Basin", funding by 01/SAICT/2018 - Scientific Research and Technological Development Projects (IC&DT) - Algarve Regional Operational Program, with the following conditions:

Research Field: Other (Social Sciences)

Main Research Area: Social and economic geography / Tourism

Admission Requirements:

- Master's degree in the area of Social Sciences Tourism, with final classification equal to or greater than 16 values.

- Previous experience of at least six months of participation in research projects funded by FCT, as a scholarship member or researcher;

- Excellent mastery of portuguese (academic writing);

- Good knowledge of the English language (oral and written) and knowledge of other languages (preferred);

- Excellent computer skills (NVivo, Office 365 in particular Excel and Word);

- Previous experience with the application of mixed methodologies (qualitative + quantitative);

- Experience in maintaining and updating websites;

- Excellent organization capacity, autonomy at work and high sense of responsibility.

Applicants must be, at the time of acceptance of the scholarship, in compliance with the provisions of the new Regulation of Research Scholarships of the University of the Algarve, namely Article 5 (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2021/10/210000000/0013700149.pdf ).

Work Plan:

Support for the planning and administration of tourism/carbon footprint questionnaires for the first quarter of 2023.

Support for the editing of the final report and research in support of a indexed scientific publication.

Support to the organization and promotion of workshop and the research of competitive financial support of continuity of the development of the project through the expansion of partnerships.

The continuation of the Work Plan allows the scholarship member to be framed in research work development and consolidation of scientific training, reinforcing his/her integration in the dynamics of work of R&D teams in social sciences in the specificities of tourism, in the planning of fieldwork and in the development of networks and communication in science /tourism.

Working place: The work will be developed at ESGHT Center for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation (CiTUR), University of Algarve, under the scientific guidance of Professor Maria Jo o Ferreira Cust dio.

Duration of the grant: The grant will have a first contract of three months duration, beginning on April 5, 2023, considering UAlg s Research Grants Regulation. (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2021/10/210000000/0013700149.pdf ).

Value of monthly maintenance allowance: The monthly maintenance allowance corresponds to 1.199,64 euros. The maintenance allowance will be paid monthly by bank transfer. (https://files.dre.pt/2s/2022/03/057000000/0023900239.pdf)

Selection criteria will be as follows:

In accordance with Article 11(2) of the Regulation on Research Scholarships of the University of algarve, the evaluation of candidates focuses on the following evaluation criteria, valued on a scale of 0 to 20 values: 

- Academic career (PA), which reflects the classifications of the academic degrees provided for in this competition, namely the master's degree - 60%;

- Scientific and professional curriculum (CCP) - 20%;

- Selection interview (ES) - 20%.

The final classification being obtained by the sum of (0.6 * PA) + (0.2 * CCP) + (0.2 * ES)

The jury may not award the scholarship if the quality of the candidates is lower than required.

The tender jury shall comprise the following members:

- Prof. Doutor Fernando Pereira Antunes Perna (President);

- Prof Doutora Maria Jo o Ferreira Cust dio (Effective member);

- Prof Doutora Kathryn Mary Torkington (Effective member);

- Prof. Doutor Lu s Nobre Pereira (Substitute member).

Publication and notification of the results: Final results will be publicized through an ordered list according to the final grade and posted in a conspicuous and public local of Building ESGHT - Centre for Tourism Research, Development and Innovation, and communicated to the applicants by e-mail to the addresses indicated by each candidate.

Deadline for applications and submission forms: the call is open from 15/03/2023 a 28/03/2023.

Applications must be accompanied by the following documents:

Official identification document (simple copy or legal equivalent). If you have a nationality other than Portuguese, you should present a residence permit, permanent residence certificate or long-term resident status, valid on the scholarship start date, any of which may be replaced, in its absence, by a declaration of commitment. However, one of the previous must be delivered at the contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the granting of the scholarship;

Copy of the qualification certificates of the academic degrees held, specifying the final classification and, if possible, the classifications obtained in all subjects taken;

If the master has been awarded by a foreign higher education institution, it must conform to the rules established in Decree-Law no. 66/2018 of August 16, and all required formalities must be complied with up to the date of termination deadline for submission of the application. If the completed process is not found until the end of the application deadline, the candidate must prove that he / she has requested the recognition of the degree.

Passport or identification card for European applicants (copy);

Taxpayer Identification Number (NIF), if you have a nationality other than Portuguese, it must be submitted during the scholarship contracting phase, under penalty of forfeiture of the scholarship award;

-Supporting documents stating that the applicant gathers all the requirements for this grant, namely the enrolment certificate in an awarding degree study cycle or in a postgraduate course;

-Supervisor Declaration taking the responsibility for the Work plan supervision, according to article 5 -A of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow, as well as assuring the necessary conditions for the development of the work plan and in compliance with article 13 of the Statute of Scientific Research Fellow;

-Declaration of the Grant acceptance;

-Declaration of commitment stating the exclusivity regime

Complaints and Appeal Deadlines and procedures

On the decision for granting the Research Grant, candidates may, if they wish, comment on the hearing of interested parties, within 10 working days, under the terms provided for in the Administrative Procedure Code.

From the practice or omission of any act of the evaluation panel, candidates can complain to the body, within 10 working days.

The final decision of the evaluation panel can be appealed to the Rector within 15 working days after the respective notification.
