About the team

The University of Western Australia (UWA) Medical School is the largest and longest established medical school in Western Australia. It delivers a 4-year post-graduate MD course to local, national and international students. The School also has substantial and successful research programs across most disciplines in the medical sector.

The Discipline of General Practice provides high quality and innovative teaching to medical students throughout the course in collaboration with the wider medical profession and general practices.

Together with our key partner, the University of Arizona (UA), UWA Medical School is developing an innovative medical degree, the Global MD, to run alongside its existing offerings. The goal of the Global MD is to produce outstanding medical graduates into areas of workforce need via an emphasis on primary care, in order to improve the health of rural and underserved communities. Students undertaking the Global MD will complete 2 years of study in Western Australia and a further 2 years in Arizona.

About the opportunity

As a Senior Lecturer you will play a key role in curriculum development and teaching coordination across the Primary Care Units in Years 1 & 2 of the Global MD program for Global MD students.

Curriculum development will occur over 2023, where you will work closely with other academics and ensure the curriculum meets the Australian Medical Council Accreditation requirements, provides appropriate academic outcomes and that clinical training is available to all students across Years 1- 4 of the program.

From July 2024 you will commence teaching and providing student assessment and feedback, focussing on applicable, relevant, and supportive educational experiences for students.

About you 

To be considered for this opportunity, you will have:

  • Registered, or able to be registered with AHPRA as a medical practitioner in Western Australia with higher qualifications, research outputs or relevant experience in Medical Education
  • Recent experience in clinical practice as a medical practitioner within the discipline of Primary Care/General Practice
  • Experience in clinical medical education including curriculum development, and clinical and procedural skills teaching in the small group format, with a commitment to high quality teaching and student support
  • Experience as a tutor and/or supervisor of medical students and/or junior doctors within general practice clinical placements.
  • Experience with the provision of medical care in under-resourced, international or marginalised communities
  • Effective organisational, verbal and written communication skills and negotiation skills
