About the Property, Facilities and Development

The Property, Facilities and Development (PFD) team works across all of Flinders’ places, spaces, and physical infrastructure. Working across four key areas: Strategic Planning and Sustainability; Capital Development; Customer and Site Services; and Strategic Projects, we are responsible for the planning, development, capital delivery, management, and maintenance of university spaces to ensure they are fit for purpose and support Flinders to deliver its strategic objectives. The PFD team is leading the planning, development, and delivery of four major strategic projects as the University strives to achieve its bold ambitions.

The newly created Sustainability Officer role Officer will support the development, maintenance, reporting and improvement of the University’s sustainability program, as well as support the University on strategic and operational sustainability matters.

Some key responsibilities for the role include:

• Supporting sustainability projects and initiatives across the organisation, with a focus on implementation and engagement
• Maintaining collection, collation, and reporting of sustainability data for reporting and submissions, including Tertiary Education Facilities Management Association (TEFMA) reporting and Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™ (STARS®).
• Identifying and applying for grants and applications for sustainable projects, submissions, and recognition and administering any internal sustainability grant processes.
• Engaging with the University community to deliver internal sustainability initiatives to embed sustainability into operations, projects, and programs.

About You 

As the successful candidate, you have acquired/qualified in environmental management, sustainability, business management and/or engineering. You are intrinsically passionate about Sustainability. You have exceptional skills in engaging various stakeholders on Sustainability education and solutions. This role is ideal for an enthusiastic graduate who has great initiative and a pro-active approach towards the day-to-day tasks.

Some of the key position capabilities of the role are:

• Wide-ranging understanding of current global, national, and state issues with respect to environmental sustainability, climate change and resource management.
• Proven capability and skills in developing systems and processes to collect, manage and report sustainability information and data.
• Effective to well-developed interpersonal and oral communication skills, with demonstrated capacity to cooperate and communicate effectively with people at all levels, internal and external to the University.
• Demonstrated ability to work individually or as a team member within strict timeframes.
