Job Description
The Department of History of the National University of Singapore is seeking to make a teaching-track appointment, during 2023, at the rank of Senior Lecturer.
The successful candidate should possess a PhD degree in History and strong teaching experience rooted in appropriate fields of interest within the wider field of the history of South Asia. Relevant experience in teaching gender; religion; social and cultural developments; political history; science, technology, and society; as well as other areas of emerging interest in South Asian history will be considered favorably. A demonstrated ability to contribute effectively to teaching the general history of South Asia, as well as more specialized courses in South Asian history and courses that bring history to broader audiences of undergraduates in the College of the Humanities and Sciences is also important. A competitive remuneration package, based on the qualifications and experience of the candidate, will be offered.
According to the QS Rankings 2022, the Department of History at NUS is ranked 13th among university history departments worldwide, and 1st in Asia. It is one of 15 Departments, a Program, and a Language Centre within the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. Southeast Asia and East Asia are areas of special strength for the Department, which consists of more than 30 faculty members with research interests in various aspects of Asian, European, and American history, military history, international history, the history of science and technology, religion and history, business, environmental, and maritime history.
Application dossiers should include evidence of teaching accomplishments and experience at the university level (including student feedback on teaching), a complete list of publications, as well as any other relevant information; a covering letter explaining why the position at NUS is of interest; and the names and contact information of no less than three academic referees. Review of applications will begin on 13 March 2023. The search will continue until an appointment is made.
