Assistant Professor in Finance or Accounting

(tenure-track)

The Department of Finance, Masaryk University in Brno, Czechia invites applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor of Finance or Accounting. We seek candidates with a strong research potential in Finance or Accounting who must demonstrate the ability to publish in leading international journals. The duration of the initial contract is 3 years with possible extension and tenure-track. Applicants should have completed their PhD in Finance or a related area prior to starting.

What does the position entail?

publishing research in top-tier academic journals in the field of Finance or Accounting, contribution to the research and teaching activities at the department, participation and supervision of externally funded research projects (Czech Science Foundation, Technological Agency of the Czech Republic, etc.), teaching of bachelor and master courses in the Finance program with a workload of up to 6 teaching hours per week, supervision of bachelor and master theses. What do we require?

PhD in the field of Finance or related field, your previous research activities should demonstrate the publication potential in leading scientific journals, ability to teach and communicate in the English language (knowledge of Czech language is not required), the earliest starting date is September 1, 2023, later date can be negotiated. The Department of Finance offers undergraduate and graduate courses in all areas of finance and accounting. The department aims to carry out research published in internationally distinguished journals and through presentations at top conferences. Faculty members conduct research in financial risk analysis and management, portfolio optimization and financial network analysis. The adjacent area of research focus is financial technologies and artificial intelligence in finance. The department provides a supportive research environment and any required facilities.

Application and selection procedure

Interviews for the position will be held online or in-person at Masaryk University. The hiring committee might request a presentation at the Department’s research seminar.

If, for any reason, you have taken a career break or have had an atypical career and wish to disclose this in your application, the selection committee will take this into account, recognizing that the quantity of your research may be reduced as a result. Leave to which the candidate is entitled by law or collective agreement shall be excluded when calculating the time since finishing the PhD.

cover letter with a description of your research agenda in the desired area for the next three years, a CV including a summary of work experience, involvement in research projects and the bibliography of published works, a job market paper or recent publication, names and contact details of at least three referees that will provide recommendation letters upon request or a list of current international collaborations (names, institutions, type of collaboration) with a focus on collaborations with highly ranked universities.
