About the Role

Recognised nationally and internationally for innovative teaching, scholarship, and research, English and Theatre Studies at Melbourne boasts one of the oldest literature programs in the world. Today, as a joint program, it is a leading research hub for critical thinking about literature and performance across genres and historical periods. Key research projects extend our work into interdisciplinary areas such as creativity, the history of emotions, ecological thinking, cultural analysis, Asian performance, Irish literature, and early modern English theatre history.

As a University of Melbourne Lecturer, you will contribute to teaching and supervision at undergraduate, honours, and postgraduate levels, and undertake research or engage in professional activities appropriate to your profession or discipline. You will conduct administration, leadership, and service relating to activities within the School, Faculty, and beyond, and may be required to perform the academic responsibilities of, and related administration for, the coordination of an award program of the University.

Responsibilities include:

  • Subject (module) coordinating and delivery.
  • Curriculum designing and innovating, including cross-disciplinary approaches.
  • Researching outputs including (but not limited to) peer-reviewed journal articles, book chapters, books, creative works, and commissioned reports.
  • Graduate research supervision.

About You

You are an experienced lecturer, specialising in popular and/or contemporary theatre and performance. To be successful in this role you will demonstrate excellence in teaching including the capacity for syllabus design, plus the ability to supervise honours and postgraduate research. 

You will also have:

  • A completed PhD in a relevant discipline.
  • A strong record in research with a developing profile of outputs relevant to the discipline.
  • Potential to attract research grants.

Employment in this position is conditional upon completion of the University’s “fit and proper” checks where required and receipt of a valid Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
