Applications are invited for a temporary post of a Research Assistant (GIS Analyst) within UCD School of Agriculture and Food Science.
Applications are invited for a 12-Month Research Assistant (GIS Analyst) position as part of the HOLOS-IE project funded by the EU Commission Recovery and Resilience Facility under the Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Future Digital Challenge Grant Number 22/NCF/FD/10947. It is comprised of an agricultural systems modeler, programmer, GIS specialist, and academics/researchers from other areas such as crop science, animal science, climatology, and forestry/agroforestry, and a non-academic societal impact champion.
This is an exciting opportunity to work as part of an international, transdisciplinary team tackling a national digital challenge (PI: Dr. Ibrahim Khalil and Co-PI: Dr. Anca Jurcut). The activities of the Research Assistant will be to (i) Integrate weather, soil, and land use databases for the configuration of a combined mapping and link to the HOLOS-IE platform for data automation and coding. (ii) Assist in developing a digital platform (HOLOS-IE) to address land uses and management issues to achieve sustainable agricultural farming while reducing greenhouse gases (GHGs) and environmental pollution, and (iv) synthesize databases, algorithms, response functions, and emissions factors (EFs) applicable for Ireland (and EU) where required.
It is anticipated that the role will commence in July 2023, or shortly thereafter.
